Camp Terrence Culture & College Tour

What an incredible week! Over six unforgettable days, our Camp Terrence youth traveled from Walterboro, South Carolina through Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, exploring history, experiencing college life, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Day 1 – Atlanta, Georgia
Visited the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and experienced the excitement of the World Cup Fan Fest at Centennial Olympic Park.r

Day 2 – Montgomery & Tuskegee, Alabama
Experienced college life at Alabama State University, thanks to Dr. Malinda Swoope, who hosted our group in the residence halls, cafeteria, and on a campus tour. Students also met President Dr. Quinton Ross Jr., visited the Legacy Museum, and explored the rich history of Tuskegee University.

Day 3 – New Orleans, Louisiana
Visited Dillard University, learned at the Louisiana Civil Rights Museum, went behind the scenes at Mardi Gras World, and enjoyed the culture and cuisine of New Orleans.

Day 4 – Jackson, Mississippi
Explored the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, met civil rights activist Hezekiah Watkins, the youngest Freedom Rider, and visited Jackson State University.

Day 5 – Birmingham & Huntsville, Alabama
Visited the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and 16th Street Baptist Church, explored the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, and celebrated a special 16th birthday surprise with one of our Camp Terrence youth and her mother.

Day 6 – Huntsville, Alabama | Juneteenth
Met entrepreneur Larry Lewis of Project XYZ, learned about innovation through drones and 3D printing, met author Barbara Johnson of Sassy, and concluded our journey at Alabama A&M University, including a visit to the Andrew and Abbiegail Hugine Living Learning Complex.

CAMP TERRENCE MOTIVATIONAL YOUTH PROGRAM

MISSON

Terrence Neal Hamilton whose life was cut short due to gun violence had a tremendous impact in his community. During his time with us, he demonstrated a depth of life that serves as a role model for young people. Therefore, the intent of Camp Terrence is to encompass these attributes in young people.

Camp Terrence was created to honor his legacy and prepare the next generation of youth.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the program is to help youth achieve in all aspects of life. Helping youth to problem-solve through service to community. The campers participate in a series of activities centering around:

Investments & Stocks
STEM
Learning about African American Culture
HBCU Visits
Kwanzaa Celebration
Health & Welness
Technoogy & Innovation

WHAT WE DO
The goal is to make sure each camper sucessfully graduates from high shool. The campers start in middle school (7th grade) and are in Camp Terrence until they graduate from high school.

Each camper will get a scholarship from Camp Terrence upon graduating.
